Reminders & WhatsApp templates
ClassLab can send your lesson reminders over WhatsApp as well as by email. When WhatsApp is available it is preferred; otherwise the reminder automatically falls back to email.
When a reminder goes out on WhatsApp
For a reminder to be sent over WhatsApp, three conditions must all be met:
- WhatsApp is enabled for your organization.
- The parent has given their WhatsApp consent.
- A valid phone number is on file.
If any of these is missing, the reminder still goes out, but by email. A parent's WhatsApp consent is managed on their profile, and the organization-wide WhatsApp toggle lives in Settings.
Customizing your messages
From the Communication tab, you can edit the text of your automated messages, for both email and WhatsApp. The editor gives you:
- a palette of variables (student name, subject, date, organization, and more) to drop into your text;
- a live preview that shows the final result.
Getting your WhatsApp templates approved
WhatsApp templates must be approved by Meta before you can use them. You pick a category (Utility or Marketing) and submit the template. Until it is approved, ClassLab uses the platform's default template or falls back to email.
Good to know
Turning on WhatsApp requires a one-time setup on the platform side. Until that is in place, everything keeps working as usual: your reminders simply go out by email.
